3 Time-Saving Tools to Boost Business Productivity in 2023

In December, I like to re-assess which tools made the biggest difference in boosting business productivity over the past year. These tools streamline tedious tasks and free up time to focus on more visionary, revenue-generating projects.

Here’s 3 time-saving tools you should start using to boost productivity next year.

Time-Saving Tool #1: Descript

What Is It: Descript is an all-in-one video editor that makes editing as easy as editing a word doc. You can upload a video or audio and it quickly and accurately transcribes it to text. You can record your screen and apply captions, too.

Why It’s A Timesaver: Descript makes it so much easier to edit videos because of their text-based video editor. Here’s how:

  • Delete filler words like “Um” or “Like” with one click! Descript automatically detects those words during in the transcription.

  • For interviews or talking head videos, you can shorten or cut out entire sections just by deleting the text you don’t want. So your videos will be more concise.

  • Re-arrange scenes in your video by copy-pasting sentences in different areas of the text file. This let’s you quickly experiment to see what order makes the most sense.

Descript’s interface features a text-based video editor

Plus, Descript streamlines repurposing your content into other formats. You can chop up long-form videos into micro-content, like short video snippets for social media. And you can use the text from the transcription as captions, quotes, podcast episode notes, or blog posts.

Pricing: A free plan is available, but the Creator plan is so worth it! You don’t have to be a video editor to easily use the tool and you can produce your videos and podcast episodes much faster, all within the same tool.

Time-Saving Tool #2: Tabli

What Is It: Tabli is a free browser tab manager for Google Chrome that provides fast switching between windows and tabs and the ability to save and restore windows.

Why It’s A Timesaver: Calling all tab-hoarders - this is for you! If you’re like me, at any given point you have dozens of tabs open on multiple browser windows.

Tabli makes it easy to quickly find a specific tab by showing you a compact view of all open windows and the tabs within them. Click on the desired tab you to jump straight to it.

Tabli opens as a small window over your Chrome browser.

You can also organize related tabs into one window and treat it as a “workspace.” For example, I group tabs I always open for a specific client into one window labeled with the client’s name.

I can then re-open all those tabs with one click.

Time-Saving Tool #3: Airtable

What Is It: A spreadsheet on steroids that’s also powerful enough to act as a database for customer-relationship management (CRM), task management, project planning, tracking inventory, and content calendar management.

Why It’s A Timesaver: This year we used Airtable to plan our social media content calendar. We can really customize different views, like a list view based on different statuses, or a grid view to see how the images/video thumbnails look on an Instagram grid.

While it doesn’t post to social accounts for you, Airtable’s ability to organize, connect, and visualize data across multiple tabs is powerful. It’s great having all the content needed to post for social in one place.

We have list views based on statuses (In Progress, Review, Ready to Post, and Posted).
